WCF Registration
All employers in mainland Tanzania are required to register with the Workers’ Compensation Fund (WCF).
- Employers that existed before 1st July 2015 were required to register by 1st July 2015.
- Employers that started operations after 1st July 2015 must register within 30 days of recruiting their first employee.
BENEFITS
PAYMENT OF COMPENSATION
The WCF provides compensation to employees who suffer occupational accidents or contract occupational diseases during the course of their employment. In the case of death, benefits are provided to the employee’s dependents.
Key points:
- Coverage applies to incidents from 1st July 2016 onwards; claims must be submitted within 12 months of the incident.
- Benefits are provided in two forms: lump-sum payments and monthly pensions, depending on the type and severity of disablement, as well as the level of dependency.
Incidents that occurred before 1st July 2016 are handled under the Workers’ Compensation Act of 1949 and the Public Service Act No. 8 of 2002.
